22 terraced hectares (56 acres) of private land. The house
is situated on the edge of a centuries' old olive grove above
the village of Montanare in the community of Cortona in Tuscany,
Italy.

Il Rifugio consists of two buildings; the
main house with 11 rooms and an adjacent building we refer to as the cottage. The main house has 4 bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms. The cottage has a laundry room and a bedroom with a separate entrance and it's own bathroom with a shower. There are also 2 daybeds in the main house. Two of the bedrooms in the main house have fixed king size beds and the other 3 bedrooms can be configured as twin beds or as one king size bed. Two bedrooms share a bathroom with a tub shower and all the other bedrooms have en suite bathrooms. There is a hair dryer in each bathroom.
The house features a large gourmet kitchen with a fireplace and a separate
walk-in-pantry, 2 sitting/reading rooms, a dining room, living
room, 2 additional fireplaces with a wood-burning stove in the living room fireplace, an outdoor barbeque with pizza oven and plenty of garden furniture for eating and
relaxing outdoors.

Il Rifugio is the perfect location for a large or extended
family vacation, small group workshop, retreat, or a
romantic getaway. Offering the ultimate in privacy, the property is rented
complete to individual parties. There are no other apartments
in the house, rentals on the property or nearby neighbors.

Il Rifugio is not just a house, it is
also over 22 terraced hectares (56 acres) of private
land comprised of oak forest, a chestnut grove, as well
as fields, gardens, and hundreds of olive trees. The property is in the community of Cortona
in Tuscany bordering Umbria. You will find many walking
trails and hundreds of miles of country roads for bicycling
or car touring.
This seventeenth-century stone farmhouse
is located at the eastern edge of Tuscany just 10 minutes
from the Etruscan hill town of Cortona. It is constructed in the traditional
old style with stone walls inside and out. The ceilings
are made with large chestnut beams and terra-cotta bricks
and the floors are primarily 'Cotto', a terra-cotta
tile.

Kitchen
Barbeque/Pizza Oven |
The spacious kitchen has a separate walk-in
pantry and a fireplace ideal for grilling. It is equipped
with a dishwasher, 5-burner stove with 2 ovens, refrigerator,
microwave, toaster oven, American coffee machine and plenty
of pots and pans and utensils for gourmet cooking. Just outside the kitchen door, there is a traditional Italian style barbeque ideal for grilling
meats and vegetables with a pizza oven below perfect for baking bread or making your favorite pizza.
The 11 room house at Il Rifugio has 3
fireplace, 5 up-to-date and charming bedrooms, 4-1/2
bathrooms, a large kitchen with separate walk-in pantry,
an outdoor barbeque/pizza oven, a dinning room and living room
with a large cast iron wood burning stove and two sitting
rooms. It will comfortably accommodate 10 people and up to 12 people utilizing the day beds.

Upstairs Sitting Room

Upon arrival guests will find a thoroughly clean house,
complete with fresh towels, soap, bed linens, robes, pool towels and basic supplies
of all kinds. Additional maid service during the week can
be arranged at a minimal cost depending on the number of
guests. Additional services,
such as private tours, dinners, wine or olive
oil tasting, etc., can be pre arranged at the time of booking. Utilities are included in the rental price, with the exception
of long distance telephone charges. Wine can also be made available for your convenience; the cost of consumed wine
should be paid at the end of
your stay.
